WELCOME

Your Ancestors Matter

Your ancestors lived, married, traveled, worked, and died. Many records were left behind to help you understand more about them.

I have developed techniques and methods necessary to identify, understand, analyze, and solve complex genealogical issues.

Feel free to contact me for your family research needs!

THE BOOKISH GENEALOGIST

A Mexican-American of Eastern European Descent

My name is Edgar, and I am a professional genealogist whose goal is to help people uncover their roots and family histories. After researching and writing the biography Diving Deep for Sea Shells, I became interested in doing the same for my family.

Born in San Luis Potosí (Mexico) and raised in Chicago (USA), my origins are in Europe, the Americas, and Africa:

  • My maternal side hails from the British/Irish Isles, Croatia, Germanic Europe, Slovenia, and Poland.

  • My paternal side is mestizo — indigenous people of Mexico with Spanish and African ancestry.

My own family research prompted me to study and launch a professional career as a genealogist. After earning a Genealogical Research Certificate from Boston University in 2019, I began providing freelance services to businesses and individuals.

After obtaining the U.S. Genealogy Research & Writing Certificate from Salt Lake Community College in 2021, I am working toward becoming a Certified Genealogist through the Board for Certification of Genealogists.

EXPERTISE

Based in Salt Lake City, I have access to the Family History Library’s collection. They have about 1.4 million rolls of microfilm on-site, along with over 600,000 books, serials, and maps. While there is plenty of information online, not everything is indexed.

I specialize in records from Illinois and Indiana. The collection “Illinois, Chicago, Catholic Church Records, 1833-1925” was the beginning of later discoveries. I have been able to create my family history from scratch and fine-tune it over time.

I am happy to help people make a connection to their ancestors. It is terrific to see clues light up on sites like Ancestry.com, but those need to be analyzed to ensure they are indeed your people. It can be frustrating and time-consuming trying to repair incorrect data.
